1 Nifty Garage Saga

Functional & Efficient A Dream Garage

First it started with a parking space. In college I spent a lot of time looking for a parking space. Next, when looking for a house to buy I looked for garage space. Now that I have a home and garage how do I stop that warehouse look inside my garage.

Straight forward and Orderly

That is a reasonable goal to achieve for usable garage space. The problem arises when there isn’t a functional storage apparatus or containers that fit varied items in the garage. Before we can organize and put things away, we need to go through the organizing process.

If you have a very large garage or a lot of stuff this step will take more time.

Don’t expect this process to occur in one day.

Divide the garage into workable goals: 1 wall at a time, 1 corner etc.

Anything you organize follows the same process.

  1. Focus on 1 area to declutter

  2. Purge Piles Donate/Recycle Repurpose Throw Away Keep

  3. Remove items

  4. Sort and Categorize

  5. Diagram the garage.

  6. Choose your storage; bins, pegboards, buckets, crates,

Garage Organizing Options

Shelving

Get things off the ground. There is steel, wire, plastic, or wood shelving.

They are adjustable and sturdy. After assembling the shelves then you can select the type of containers to fit on the shelves. Look at the items needed to be stored and then choose containers to match the need.

Storage Racks

Heavy duty racks, adjustable, and some even on wheels.

Heavy items, such as miter saws, skill saws and other heavy tools need a sturdy base.

Even placing these heavy tools on a rolling cart allows for flexibility in where you can work safely.

Tool Cabinets

Stacking bins, latched boxes, general tough garage storing options. The large, rolling tool carts are awesome for tools of all sorts.

Crates

label and color coded, stacking, handles to carry sports equipment, toys, balls

Open containers, stacking, color coded and good for nails, screws, sandpaper, golf balls, irrigation parts, tennis balls, or whatever fun stuff you have in the garage.

Hang it UP!

No garage is complete without pegboards. There are large, small, wood, plastic, metal and colored pegboards. Design a pegboard for yourself, garden tools, hobby needs

Follow your garage design to place like items together.

Design with Flare

Paint one wall, opposite walls, or adjacent walls.
