No Time to Organize! 5 Steps to a More Organized You!
There are many reasons why we don’t take the time to organize. Organize how we pay bills, the laundry room, hall closet or the kitchen’s pots and pans. Time. Effort. Do I keep it decisions? Tried it already and it doesn’t work.
That feeling of disorganization that develops over time or situational disorganization that overwhelms you! YOU want control over your possessions. That’s when you need a personal organizer. We love to help our clients organize and achieve that organized sigh of contentment and pride. Pride that you organized a living space and now can use it more efficiently.
How to start organizing.
Follow these 5 steps to a better organized you.
Choose an area of the home.
Choose a Specific Space
Set a time limit.
Schedule the organizing.
Have fun!
Choose an area of the home.
The living room, family room, kitchen, bathroom, home office, kids’ room, closets, garage, laundry room and other additional spaces.
Which area of the home irks you the most? Who will use the space? Who will benefit from the organization? What organizing strategies have you tried? How do you want to use the space? How do you want it to look?
Specifics Spaces.
Next narrow the organizing project to a small area or focus in the room. Ideally, one that can be done in 20-30 minutes or less. Once successful you will be motivated to organize the next home area and for a longer interval.
Garden tools
Board Games
Jewelry
Pet Closet
Home office file, shred, or recycle papers on the desk
Laundry room supplies etc
Organizing doesn’t happen in a day. Start with what area you really need to use. What do you need that space to do for you and your family? There are ways to organize counters, junk drawers, filing cabinets, video games, books on shelves, and dirty clothes to make life easier.
Set a time limit.

Use a timer, watch, phone to manage the organizing event. When the timer goes off, stop. When I do this I’m motivated by the clock. I always have a donation bag, trash bag, and “keep” piles set up next to me. Then when I stop, but not finished, I can move the piles out of the way to get on with the day. But when I do finish, yes, I enjoy that accomplishment and then look forward to the next schedule organizing event.
Side note: I do organize myself with daily and weekly schedules in blocks of time. When I cross off enough of my "To Dos" then I get to organize something!
Use the timer. Ding! Time's up! Now make a decision, finish organizing or continue at another scheduled day and time.
I’m confident that over time and with practice you will be deciding to finish organizing quite more often than not.
Schedule the organizing event.

Put the date on the family calendar, your phone, on a To-Do list, tell a friend, and share with your family. When we have goals there should also be accountability. Accountability helps adjust our organizing behavior. Even the simple action of saying it out loud spurs us on to complete that organizing task.
Have Fun! Be hopeful and confident that over time you will come to complete organizing living spaces in your home, in longer stretches of time, and even enjoy it!
Organizing is a journey. It happens in steps. The first step is recognizing that you need to organize.
