The 12 Days of Organizing

SK Simple Solutions’ The 12 Days of Organizing by Donating, Getting Rid of, or Keeping our Treasures!

12 Days, 30 minutes each day, decide what to donate, get rid of, or keep!

We are on a journey to change our clutter behavior to reduce what we buy, reuse what we have, and treasure & display our collectibles!

On the first day Organizing

My personal organizer said to me,

Just 30 minutes to declutter every day!

Set a specific goal: broken frames, food pantry, books, linens

Make 3 piles; donations, throw away, KEEP

Set the timer: 30 minutes

Go

Let’s look at the middle 2 days of Christmas organizing.

On the fifth day of Organizing

My organizer said to me

5 broken frames (recycle the glass! I know it doesn’t fit in the poem!)

Photos, how to organize, hard copies, digital, on the phone or computer. Then what pictures to hang! It isn’t possible to organize everything photos. So, let’s focus on photo frames.

How many have you kept over the years. I seem to have a lot. As the kids were growing up I always wanted to frame the pictures. My problem was the design on the wall. I needed to upgrade my style. Over the course of many years, I have reframed my collections.

As I reframed and hung photos I amassed quite a bit of used frames. Now, how to let go of picture frames!

Broken glass can be recycled.

Broken frames, if wooden, may be recycled. If the wood has been treated then check with your Waste Company to check if it can be recycled.

  • DIY repurposing photo frames:

  • Use to plant & hang succulents.

  • Add a bulletin board as the back. (Chalk board, dry erase etc.)

  • Hang 1 for menu, 1 for each day to do list.

  • Hang 7-8 frames, overlapping, without the art

  • Hang 3 horizontally with a chain to make a hanging rack.

  • Put 3-4 wires across the frame to clip photos, jewelry, receipts

The food pantry. A catch all for food, small appliances, dog food, old newspapers, brooms, cleaning supplies. For this 12 Days of Organizing with SK Simple Solutions we will focus on donating food to local food banks.

Focus on non-perishable foods: cans, cereal, boxed food. Remove expired food. Group food by categories; canned beans, soups, sauces, vegetables, condiments, cereals,

Finally, choose food to bring to the local food bank.

The top food items every food bank needs.

  • Cereal

  • Peanut butter

  • Canned soup

  • Canned fruit

  • Canned vegetables

  • Canned stew

  • Canned beans

  • Pasta (most prefer whole grain)

  • Rice (most prefer brown rice)
